Professional Experience and Final Dissertation
Professional experience (internship) is a pivotal component of the MSc Engineers for Smart Cities program, serving as a bridge between classroom learning and practical experience in the professional world. It offers a platform for students to translate theoretical concepts into concrete solutions, heighten their awareness of the existing issues, and explore new perspectives for positive change.
The internship lasts a minimum of 4 months and can be up to 6 months, starting in April and ending in September. The specific goals and content of the internship are collaboratively defined by the student, the Professional Supervisor from the Host Organization, and the Academic Supervisor from Université Côte d’Azur.
Successful completion of the internship is a prerequisite for obtaining the degree. The evaluation and validation of the internship consist of two primary components:
- Written Dissertation: Students are required to submit a comprehensive written dissertation, encompassing a minimum of 10,000 words, by end of August.
- Oral Final Defense: The culmination of the module includes an oral final defense, held in September.
Upon completing this module, students will:
Bridge theory and practice by developing the ability to connect academic theories to practical applications in the dynamic field of smart cities.
Apply knowledge and skills to real-world work environments, making a meaningful impact.
Acquire new insights and learning experiences through engaging in challenging and meaningful activities during the internship.
Enhance their problem-solving skills by addressing real-world challenges and finding innovative solutions.
Improve communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive professional relationships and teamwork.
Enhance personal development through self-understanding, self-discipline, maturity and confidence, so as to be ready for future career challenges and professional opportunities.
Professional Experience and Final Dissertation serve as a crucial stepping stone in the academic and professional journey of MSc Engineers for Smart Cities students, empowering them with the practical knowledge, skills, and insights required to make a positive impact in the realm of smart cities.
