Hands-On Integrated Project
This module offers students a unique opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. It focuses on real and hands-on projects, allowing students to apply the theories and concepts they’ve learned in lectures and seminars throughout the 1st semester. This module assesses students’ ability to design, structure, and execute a project idea in a hands-on manner.
120 study hours
This module is designed in a multidisciplinary approach, allowing students to apply their knowledge from previous modules. Students collaborate in small groups of 2 to 4 persons, guided by two tutors with diverse backgrounds. The project revolves around an applied smart city concept that may be implemented at local level. Over a span of 4 months in Semester 1, students work autonomously to deliver a tangible output, which could be a study, a prototype, or an object addressing one or more smart city challenges.
By the end of this module, students will gain:
Enhanced Project Management Skills, including planning, execution, and evaluation.
Deeper Smart City knowledge through acquisition of a profound understanding of the smart city sector, with a focus on key areas such as the environment, mobility, and energy.
Proficiency in using collaborative tools and software relevant to the smart city sector, enhancing their technological and practical skills.
Design Thinking Application to their project, fostering creative problem-solving and innovation.
Transferable Skills Development, including teamwork, leadership, effective communication, a sense of responsibility, and initiative. These skills are indispensable for their future professional development.
The Hands-on Integrated Project is a practical cornerstone of the MSc Engineers for Smart Cities, enabling students to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application while cultivating essential skills for their future careers in the smart city sector.
